For extracting natural diamonds that grow in the mantle of the earth, deep excavation and mining is performed. Mining diamonds causes air, water and land pollution, thus destroying the natural habitat for animals. For our own selfish purpose of obtaining diamonds from the earth, loss of biodiversity is not justified when the same diamond can be grown in the laboratory.
